Play! by Sephora September 2018 Unboxing and First Impressions

Hiii, dolls!!!  I’m baaack!  Thailand was absolutely ahhh-mazing and I can’t wait to share all the deets with you in a future travel blog! 😉 I also have a lot of fun new posts coming your way, but first things first, catching up on all the subscription boxes that arrived while I was away!  Today, we are going through September’s Sephora Play! sample box.  You can find my review of August’s box here.  Play! is Sephora’s subscription service that provides 5 beauty samples plus 1 fragrance sample for $10/month (plus local taxes).

September’s theme was Next-Gen Beauty and the Play! Bag came with 6 products in this new, recyclable plastic bag, instead of the previous fabric pouches.  I haven’t quite decided how I feel about these yet.20181023_132811-01As usual, it includes an insert with product descriptions/ directions and a Play! Pass, redeemable in Sephora stores and now online for 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any purchase.

  1. Peter Thomas Roth Hungarian Thermal Water Mineral-Rich Atomic Heat Mask

Peter Thomas Roth Hungarian Thermal Water Mineral-Rich Atomic Heat MaskA powerful heat mask that uses Hungarian thermal water to nurture skin (insert).   That name…is intense 😂 I was excited to try this mask as the concept sounded interesting, but I was disappointed in its performance.  The cream was very thick coming out of the squeeze tube and on the skin.  After 3 minutes, I wet my fingers with cool water, massaged the mask into the skin, and the heating sensation commenced.  It felt nice enough, but more importantly, I didn’t see any difference in my skin after rinsing off the mask, at all.  For that reason, I’ll pass.

  1. Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Perfector Skin Tint Foundation in 8

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Perfector Skin Tint Foundation in 8An easy-to-apply weightless skin tint with a sheer to medium finish and SPF coverage (insert).  If you dislike heavy foundations or are looking for an easy, everyday product, this is a beautiful tinted moisturizer.  The formula is creamy, blends seamlessly, and feels so lightweight on the skin.  The coverage is sheer, but evens out skin tone and gives you a lovely, natural finish.  Love this!

  1. Boscia Cactus Water Moisturizer

Boscia Cactus Water MoisturizerA lightweight moisturizer formulated with queen of the night cactus for soft, supple skin (insert).  For a gel, I was impressed by how hydrating this is.  It has a refreshing scent, absorbs quickly, and creates a seal of moisture around the skin, without ever feeling heavy.  My dry skin just drank up all the hydration.  As a bonus, I am all about this cute packaging. 20181023_133208-01

  1. Sephora Collection LashCraft Big Volume Mascara in Black

Sephora Collection LashCraft Big Volume Mascara in BlackFull volume mascara with a buildable formula that coats lashes in intense black color (insert).  If you are blessed with naturally bountiful lashes and are looking for a defined, clump-free formula, you may very well love this mascara.  I must have added about 5 coats in one sitting, and it never created any clumps.  However, it does not build up thin lashes, as I would expect from the name.  I need a more voluminous formula, so this was a pass for me.Sephora Collection LashCraft Big Volume Mascara in Black

  1. Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer

Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face PrimerA replenishing primer that hydrates skin and creates a perfect canvas for makeup (insert).  This is a fantastic hydrating primer, particularly for dry skin.  It has the consistency of a moisturizer, as opposed to a silicone base.  I loved that it gave me an extra boost of moisture and my foundation glided on top like butter.  I would definitely invest in a full sized.

  1. Chloe Nomade Eau de Parfum

Chloe Nomade Eau de ParfumIdeal for free-spirited, confident individuals, this fragrance exudes a feeling of escape and openness to the world with a clean, floral and natural scent (insert).  This warm, floral just brings to my mind, snuggling under a big sweater on a chilly autumn day.  I have yet to find a Chloe fragrance I don’t like.

Overall Rating:  I really enjoyed September’s Sephora Play! Bag so I’m giving it a rating of 9/10 stars based on my first impressions.  I’m so glad they brought back the perfume samples instead of the single use shampoo/ conditioners 👍 With the exception of two products, I loved the other goodies in my bag.  I’m hard pressed to pick a favorite among them, as they were that good.

What are your thoughts on the Sephora Play! Bag?  Which products were you most excited to test out?
