Boxycharm April 2017 Unboxing & First Impressions

Happy Tuesday, y’all!  Today, I’ll be sharing with you my review of April’s Boxycharm!  Boxycharm is my favorite beauty subscription box that provides 5-6 full-sized items for $21/month.  What I love about Boxycharm is that the value of all the luxury products always well exceed the $21 price.

April’s theme was Boho Glow and came with 5 products.20170416_110422

  1. Ofra Cosmetics Rodeo Drive Highlighter – $35 (ofracosmetics.com)

IMG_20170420_003003_658Soak up the summer sun day or night with Ofra’s Rodeo Drive Highlighter!  This radiant new product captures the luxury and glamour of the famous street in sunny California (excerpt).  Woohoo!  I finally got my hands on an Ofra Highlighter.  Seeing them all over social media have been giving me serious glow envy.  This highlighter is no joke!  The formula is very creamy, but intensely pigmented so use a light hand unless you want to look like C-3PO.  If that is your desired effect, then feel free to pile it on 😉  The imprint pattern is so chic and golden champagne shade is very flattering against my tanned skintone.20170417_165010_2017041717231991220170417_165022

  1. PUR Blend Squad: 3-Piece Contour Blending Sponges – $36 (purcosmetics.com)

20170416_111453Set of 3 latex-free and non-allergenic blending sponges.  Can be used damp or dry.  It’s washable, reusable, and odor-free (excerpt).  Initially, I didn’t think I would like these sponges because even after I soaked them with water and squeezed out the excess, they were still very firm.  They are not as squishy or bouncy as the Beauty Blender or drugstore sponges such as the Real Techniques Complexion Sponge or L’Oreal one. However, they still work great for flawless blending and I find that because they aren’t as porous, they don’t soak up as much face product.  I love the round end for bouncing in foundation and the flat edge for concealer and baking.  Plus I’m a total sucker for the adorable colors 😉  LOVE these!20170416_111648

  1. Measurable Difference Concealer Palette – $19.99 (measurabledifference.com)

20170416_111238Featuring 16 versatile shades, this makeup set works for any skin tone.  The creamy, blendable formula melts perfectly into the skin making any blemish or skin flaw disappear (excerpt).  I like that this includes a wide selection of shades ranging from fair, to orange, to deep for contouring.  This ensures that it will suit a range of skintones.  However, like other cream concealer/contour palettes I’ve tried, these are just too drying to be used on its own and I don’t have the patience to add beauty oils to the creams to increase blendability.  I would much prefer skipping the extra step and using a creamier/ liquid concealer or a deeper foundation stick for contouring.20170416_111254

  1. Cargo Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Umbria – $16 (cargocosmetics.com)

20170416_111134Super high shine lip gloss delivers intense, lasting color!  Creamy, moisturizing formula glides over lips, never feels sticky (exerpt).  Umbria is a flattering nude shade that has a touch of gold shimmer.  The shimmer looks intense in the tube, but is far more subtle on the lips.  The formula is shiny without being sticky, smells like cocoa (YUM!), but has no taste.  I love this gloss as a topper over a nude liquid lipstick.IMG_20170419_174454_256

  1. Project Beauty Hairgurt Smoothing Yogurt Shampoo – $10 (myprojectbeauty.com)

20170416_110841Wondering when your hair got a mind of its own?  Try this creamy, rich shampoo with yogurt, probiotics, quinoa, 6 botanical oils and bio keratin to help tame frizzy dry hair.  Free of sulfates, parabens, harsh salt systems, harmful colors and harmful fragrances (exerpt).  I’ve received the Hairgurt Hair Masque in a previous Boxycharm (here) and it was too lightweight of a conditioner for my dry hair needs.  This shampoo smells sooo good, just like watermelon Jolly Ranchers.  I like that this is sulfate free for my color treated hair and that it doesn’t weigh the hair down, prolonging time in between washes.

Overall Rating:  I would give this month’s Boxycharm a rating of 9/10 stars.  April’s Boxycharm had a combined value of $116.99, far exceeding the $21 price tag, making it a great value once again.  I wasn’t blown away by the formula of the Concealer Palette, but it was still a fun product to test out overall.  For that reason, I actually loved the product selection ranging from makeup, to beauty tools, and haircare.  My favorite picks of the batch are the Ofra Highlighter, Pur Sponges, and Cargo Lipgloss 😉

Did you enjoy your Boxycharm?  Which products are you most excited to test out?

Mary Dee
