Maybelline Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lip Color Review

Maybelline Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lip Color Review

Hi loves!  Today, I will be reviewing the Maybelline Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lip Colors that I ordered from Ulta.  I previously own a bunch of lipsticks from their Creamy Mattes, Red/Berry, and The Buffs collections.  Their Color Sensational line is phenomenal with a wide range of stunning shades in creamy and matte finishes.  I was eager to put these The Loaded Bolds Lipsticks to the test.

What it is: Maybelline’s Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lip Color delivers one-stroke intensity with hyper-color pigments and an opaque, creamy clay base.  Available in a collection of pigment-loaded shades from deep plums and electric blues to vibrant reds and natural nudes (Ulta.com).

Price: $7.49 (ulta.com), 0.15 oz

Where to Buy: Ulta, Target, Walmart, Drugstores (Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid)

Packaging:  The packaging is compact and sleek, like previous lipsticks in the Color Sensational collection.  It is differentiated by the the transparent sapphire cap, which I think is so pretty and chic!  I have had no issues traveling with these lipsticks, so this should stay closed and safe in a cosmetics bag.

Formula:  According to Ulta.com, these lipsticks contain “sumptuous honey nectar” that leaves a creamy finish.  I agree that both these lipsticks are very creamy, glides on easily, and feels very comfortable on the lips.  However, these shades performed completely different in terms of pigmentation and application, which I go into further detail below.

Color:  I picked up two shades: Dynamite Red and Sapphire Siren.  Dynamite Red is a stunning classic red that you can’t go wrong with.  Sapphire Siren is a violet blue shade, which is completely out of my comfort zone, but a wonderful color to experiment with the bold lips trend.

Swatches:

Application:  Dynamite Red glided on the lips like a dream and one swipe was enough for an opaque finish.  It feels very comfortable on, but will transfer to any surface that comes in contact with your lips, such as napkins or cups.  I am constantly sipping on water and tea throughout the day so lipsticks typically don’t last very long anyways.  However, this fades beautifully, leaving behind a nice stain.  I did not have the same luck with Sapphire Siren, unfortunately.  The blue shade, although smooth, applied very patchy and did not fully cover the lips in color.  In fact, when I tried to go over the patchy spots, it tended to pick up the product and make it even more streaky.  I was so disappointed I ended up removing it entirely after I finished taking photos so I can’t vouch for its longevity.

Overall Rating:  It is difficult to give this Maybelline Lipstick a definitive rating as the quality varied from shade to shade.  Sapphire Siren was a total dud for me, but I would rate Dynamite Red as 9/10 stars!  For $7-$8, this is a stunning red lipstick with a beautiful formula that is so affordable from the drugstore.  I am excited to add this to my collection of Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Colors and would happily recommend The Loaded Bolds line.  However, my suggestion would be to swatch the testers in stores (such as Target) to pick the best formulations.  That way, you can ensure you’d be picking a gem and avoiding the duds 😉

Have you tried the Maybelline The Loaded Bold Lipsticks?  What are your thoughts on the product?

Mary Dee
