Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette Review

Happy Monday, loves!  I hope everyone had a great weekend 🙂  Today, I will be reviewing the Kat Von D MetalMatte Eye Shadow Palette I picked up from Sephora.  I previously owned the cult favorite, KVD Shade in Light Eye Contour Palette, and while I enjoyed the formula, the shades were too neutral/ cool-toned for my personal tastes.  When I saw this gorgeous assortment of colorful shades online, I was eager to put it to the test and see how the eyeshadows performed.

What it is: An exclusive, ultra-limited, eye shadow palette with 13 rich mattes and nine Metal Crush shades  (Sephora.com).Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette ReviewPrice: $60, 9 x 1.14 oz/ 37.4 g Metal Crush Eye shadows, 13 x 1.14 oz/ 37.4 g Matte Eye shadows

Packaging:

The packaging, with the ambigram of “Metal” and “Matte”, on the front of the palette is so sick!  This also gets bonus points for having the shade names on the back plus inside for convenience, and for including a large-sized mirror and booklet tutorial of eyelooks.  This MetalMatte Palette is HUGE so while it looks amazing as a display, I would not personally pack it for travels.  For a size comparison, you can see below how it stacks up next to the Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette.

Formula:Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette Swatches and ReviewI am very impressed by the quality of these eye shadows!  As you can see from the swatches, these eye shadows are very creamy and pigmented, with the colors shining vibrant and true.  Because they are so buttery soft, there was quite a bit of shadow pick up and fallout when I initially dipped my brush in the shadows.  However, this is not a big issue to me as I typically apply my eye shadow before my face makeup anyways.  I am excited to announce that the matte shades are just as smooth and pigmented as the shimmer shades 😉Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette Swatches and ReviewColor: Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette ReviewOn the top row, there are 9 Metal Crush Eyeshadows in Nebula (metallic navy), Watt (metallic teal), Ignite (metallic sea foam), Tinsel (metallic pewter), Glitz (metallic rose gold), Twinkle (metallic lilac), Volt (metallic violet), Synergy (metallic bronze), and Flash (metallic gold).  On the bottom row, there are 13 Matte Eyeshadows in Linen (matte white) Jet (matte black), Velour (matte royal blue), Stone (matte cement gray), Moss (matte forest green), Ribbon (matte deep purple), Silk (matte terra cotta), Fringe (matte peach), Feather (matte dandelion yellow), Oak (matte chocolate brown), Suede (matte fawn), Bone (matte cream), and Velvet (matte deep plum).  My favorite shimmer shades are Watt, Tinsel, and Flash and my favorite matte shades are Jet, Oak, and Velvet.

Purple Smokey Eye using the KVD Metal Mattes Palette

I created a purple halo smokey eye by applying Bone on the brow bones to highlight, a wash of Silk as a transition, blended Ribbon in the crease to the lash line, and popped a mix of Twinkle and Volt on the center of the lid for a pop of shimmer.

Overall Rating:  I rate the KVD MetalMattes Eyeshadow Palette as 10/10 stars!  I held this product to high expectations because of the brand and price, and this surpassed them all.  The $60 pricetag is, admittedly, a tad bit high.  However, this is actually a pretty good value for a gorgeous assortment of high quality eye shadows, considering you are getting 22 eyeshadows total.  I love how buttery and pigmented the metals and matte shadows are as both have equally amazing quality.  You can create bold colorful eyelooks for night times, but you can also use the neutral shades for daytime looks.  If you are a lover of colorful shimmery and matte shadows,  this beautiful palette would make an amazing addition to your collection.  I am very pleased with this palette and highly recommend!
