LA Girl Pro Matte Foundation Review

Hiii dolls!  Today, I’m bringing you a review of the LA Girl Pro Matte HD Foundation!  I dedicated an entire blog post review to the original Pro Coverage HD Foundation, which you can find here.  That LA Girl Illuminating Foundation is one of my top favorite foundations, so when they released a Matte version, I had to give it a try as well.LA Girl Pro Matte Foundation Review and Swatches in Light Tan
What it is: With a soft and suede-like finish, PRO.matte Foundation will have you covered and shine-free all day. Creamy, liquid formula provides smooth and buildable coverage for both day and night time wear. Minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines for an even, soft focus effect. Paraben free formula with added vitamin E, B5 & sunflower oil (lagirlusa.com).

Packaging:  I LOVE this chic frosted glass packaging, which is slimmer than the Pro Coverage Foundation’s plastic packaging.  While it may not be as travel friendly as it is heavier and can shatter in your luggage, I still think it’s very sleek and bonus points for having a convenient hygienic pump as well.LA Girl Pro Matte Foundation in Light TanLA Girl Pro Matte Foundation Review and Swatches in Light Tan
Formula:  This foundation has a pretty thick viscosity and yields almost full coverage with just one thin layer.  With two layers, it gives such great coverage that I barely have to use any concealer under my eyes.  I have very dry skin, so I do have to moisturize well before applying this foundation.  Even though it gives a true matte finish, it doesn’t cling to my dry patches, as I have found with the L’Oreal Infalliable Pro Matte Foundation sometimes.  Other than around my undereye area where I applied concealer, I did not have to set the rest of my face with any powder and my foundation still lasted all day.  It only wore off around my nose area, which is normal with my constant nose blowing, but the rest of my face was still matte and flawless at the end of the night.  Score! 🙌LA Girl Pro Matte Foundation Swatches in Light TanShade Range:  There are currently 14 shades available on the LA Girl and Ulta website.  However, only 8 of the 14 shades can be purchased in Ulta stores 😒  I picked up Light Tan because it was the darkest shade available in my local Ulta store and it matched my golden/olive undertones perfectly.  As I get more tanned though, I’ll have to order a darker shade.20180303_142109
Application:  I like applying this foundation best with a damp beauty sponge, whether it be the BeautyBlender or EcoTools Total Perfecting Blender.  A blending brush would be too drying to distribute the product with my particular skintype, though I’m sure you could make it work.  The damp sponge gives me some extra moisture and really presses the product into my skin, which I feel contributes to it lasting all day.  One pump is enough product for full coverage all over.LA Girl Pro Matte Foundation Swatches and ReviewLA Girl Pro Matte Foundation Swatches and Review
Swatches:  The top photos are one layer applications of the LA Girl Pro Matte HD Foundation in natural lighting and with camera flash.  It provides full coverage and has a flawless, matte finish.  The foundation sets very quickly leaving behind no tackiness and doesn’t need any additional powder on top.  Below is a photo of the Pro Matte on my skin, without any filter, followed by a side by side comparison of the LA Girl Pro Matte vs Pro Coverage Foundation.LA Girl Pro Matte Foundation in Light Tan No Filter

Overall Rating:  I am obsessed with this LA Girl Pro Matte HD Foundation so I happily award it 10/10 stars.  The packaging is tres chic and you really can’t beat the price point for the quality of the product.  The foundation gives full coverage, blurs imperfections, and gives an airbrushed matte finish that lasts all day.  If you have oily skin or didn’t like the dewy finish of the original LA Girl Pro Coverage Foundation, I highly recommend giving this Pro Matte one a try.  This has quickly become my favorite matte foundation ever and I recommend it wholeheartedly!
Have you tried the LA Girl Pro Matte HD Foundation?  What are your thoughts on the formula?

Hi Mary, I wore the illuminating foundation in the shade warm beige, but found that it was too red. Do you think that the matte foundation in shade Light Tan would be the perfect match? I’m tryna find a matte drugstore foundation that I don’t have to mix to get a good shade, but oh boi it’s a struggle. Looking forward to your reply!

Hey girl! I totally feel your struggle! 😉 While Warm Beige has some pink undertones, Light Tan is as yellow as they come. I mean, really yellow. If you have a similar gold/ olive skintone, I think you would really enjoy Light Tan. I hope it works for you! <3

What are your thoughts? I would love to hear from you :)
