Ipsy July 2018 Glam Bag Unboxing and First Impressions

Hello, everyone!   Today, we will be going over the contents of July’s Ipsy Glam Bag!  You can find my June Ipsy Glam Bag here.  Ipsy is a beauty subscription service that provides 5-6 sample/full-sized items for $10/month.  What I like about Ipsy is that the price encompasses shipping, and it regularly includes full sized products in a cute cosmetics bag (sign up here).Ipsy July 2018 Glam Bag Unboxing and First ImpressionsJuly’s Glam Bag comes with 5 products in this holographic turquoise pouch.Ipsy July 2018 Glam Bag Unboxing and First Impressions

  1. Smashbox Studio Skin 24 Hour Waterproof Concealer in Medium/ Dark – Full Sized – Retail Price $25 – (Buy here)

Smashbox Studio Skin 24 Hour Waterproof Concealer in Medium/ Dark A waterproof, hydrating, oil-free concealer that flawlessly camouflages imperfections with a natural-matte finish for 24 hours (sephora.com).  This has a very creamy and blendable formula that works great with my dry skin.  It gives medium, buildable to full coverage, with a natural satin finish that doesn’t crease, after I’ve set it with my RCMA No Color Powder.  Medium/ Dark is a shade too dark for me to brighten my undereye area, but I layer a lighter concealer on top and I’m good to go.  I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this concealer.

  1. La Beaute Fatale Lipstick in Vibrate – Full Sized – Retail Price $28 – (Buy here)

La Beaute Fatale Lipstick in Vibrate Best Selling Collection of Lipware finishes lips with smooth and creamy color. Indulge with pearlized and frosted shades developed to provide Hi-gloss extreme shine. Super soft matte texture shade ranges are ultra lightweight for easy application (labeautefatale.com).  This is my first introduction to the La Beaute Fatale brand.  Their lipstick formula is very creamy and pigmented, gliding on easily and saturating the lips with opaque color.  Vibrate is a bright fuchsia shade that is very unique, but I wish I had received a more wearable nude shade.  I just don’t see myself reaching for this again in the future, so I’ll be passing it along.20180727_122409

  1. Pop Beauty Peak Performance Brow in Natural Brunette – Full Sized  Retail Price $8 – (Buy here)

Pop Beauty Peak Performance Brow in Natural Brunette Create perfect arches with this ultra-convenient, easy-to-use automatic brow pen with slanted tip provides foolproof application. Fill-in and blend with brush. Pigment-rich formula glides on and stays on (popbeauty.com).  I like the packaging, particularly because they include a spoolie for blending out the product, but I prefer a brow pencil with a finer tip to draw sharp ends.  I’ve found over time, these tapered type of pencils get too blunt for me to draw precise hair strokes.Pop Beauty Peak Performance Brow in Natural Brunette

  1. H2O+ Beauty Oasis Ultra Hydrating Cream – Deluxe Sample Sized – (Buy here)

H2O+ Beauty Oasis Ultra Hydrating CreamH2O+ Beauty’s Oasis Ultra Hydrating Cream is a luxurious water-gel cream moisturizer that provides rich hydration for dry and extra-dry skin. Treat your skin to a surge of creamy moisture, clinically proven to immediately hydrate and relieve dry, parched skin (ulta.com).  This moisturizer has a gel-like consistency that reminds me a lot of the Belif Aqua Balm.  It feels very lightweight, absorbs quickly, and hydrates the skin before makeup application.

  1. Ahava Facial Mud Exfoliator – Deluxe Sample Sized – (Buy here)

Ahava Facial Mud ExfoliatorGet a deeper cleansing experience with Ahava’s Facial Mud Exfoliator. Dead Sea Mud and tiny polishing granules gently exfoliate surface skin cells and thoroughly clean pores to stimulate cell renewal, revealing fresh radiant skin. (ulta.com).  The granules in this scrub are slightly rougher than the fine microbeads of the Dr. Brandt Pore Dermabrasion, but not as abrasive as the seeds in the St. Ives Apricot Scrub.  My skin felt smoother after the treatment, but it also left a slightly tacky film behind.  Overall, there was nothing memorable about this exfoliator to garner a full-sized purchase.

Overall Rating:  I was disappointed by July’s Glam Bag so I’m giving this month a rating of 6/10 stars, based on my first impressions.  Despite the 3 full sized products with a retail value of $61, I just wasn’t wowed by the overall product selection.  With the exception of the concealer and moisturizer, I’ll be passing along the rest of the products.  The only product that really impressed me was the the Smashbox Concealer.

What did you receive in your July Ipsy Glam Bag?  Which products are you most excited to test out?

XO,

Mary Dee
