Boxycharm July 2018 Unboxing and First Impressions

Happy Friday, everyone!  Today, I’ll be reviewing the contents of July’s Boxycharm!  You can find my review on June’s Boxycharm here.  Boxycharm is my favorite beauty subscription box that provides 5-6 full-sized items for $21/month.  What I love about Boxycharm is that the value of all the luxury products always well exceed the $21 price (sign up here).

July’s theme is Roadtrippin and comes with 5 products.Boxycharm July 2018 Unboxing and First Impressions

  1. Crown Brush Fuego Eyeshadow Palette – $29.99 (Buy here)

Crown Brush Fuego Eyeshadow PaletteMade up of rich, warm-toned shades, this creamy, high-pigmented palette gives you exactly what you need to create infinite, flawless eye looks.  The 4 shimmer shades perfectly complement the 6 matte shades, making this the palette for all your glam glows (excerpt).  Inititally, this shade selection looks like a warm eyeshadow lover’s dream and would be totally up my alley.  However, I found that the matte transition shades are very similar to one other in tones, so it can start to look muddy on the lids.  Admittedly, these shadows swatch very creamy and pigmented on the arm.  The mattes are soft and blendable, but the shimmers do not pack the same oomph on the eyes, even when I patted it on with my fingers.  This palette was a letdown for me, personally :(Crown Brush Fuego Eyeshadow PaletteCrown Brush Fuego Eyeshadow Palette SwatchesCrown Brush Fuego Eyeshadow Palette Swatches

  1. Dr. Brandt No More Baggage Eye De-Puffing Gel– $42 (Buy here)

Dr. Brandt No More Baggage Eye De-Puffing GelSay goodbye to puffy and say hello to youthful, rested looking eyes with Dr. Brandt’s No More Baggage eye deputing gel.  Formulated with biometric technology, peptides and botanical extracts, you are guanranteed visibly reduced under bags and dark circles (excerpt).  This eye gel’s consistency surprised me because it’s actually a thick orange paste that thins out once you warm it up between your fingers.  I applied a small amount on top of my eye moisturizer, as instructed, and didn’t see much of a difference in depuffing.  Additionally, I found if I rub it in too much, the product will start to pill.  I typically enjoy Dr. Brandt products, but I don’t feel this eye gel justifies the high price point.

  1. Wander Beauty Unlashed Volume and Curl Mascara – $24 (Buy Here)

Wander Beauty Unlashed Volume and Curl MascaraThis award-winning, black and intensely glossy mascara will bring your lashes to new heights.  The Unlashed mascara volumes, lengthens, strengthens, and conditions your lashes while using a combination of gentle ingredients (excerpt).  I had low expectations for this product, as few mascaras work with my sad little lashes, but this was surprisingly good.  The pitch black formula builds more length than volume, so there was no clumping as I packed it on.  The curved wand coats every lash and does a great job holding a curl.  I’m happy to add this mascara into my rotation.Wander Beauty Unlashed Volume and Curl Mascara

  1. Note Cosmetics Luminous Silk Compact Blusher in Desert Rose – $11.99 (Buy Here)

Note Cosmetics Luminous Silk Compact Blusher in Desert RoseDesigned to work for all skin types, this luminous, paragon free blush adds natural color to your cheeks while preventing dryness with its organ oil infused formula.  This built-in brush and mirror makes this little compact a 3-in-1 treat, perfect or the charmer on the go (exerpt).  I didn’t realize there was a brush included until I reread the excerpt, but let’s be honest, who uses these compact brushes? 🤷 The formula of the blush itself is very creamy, pigmented, and blendable.  Desert Rose is such a pretty, flattering peach shade.  Love this.Note Cosmetics Luminous Silk Compact Blusher in Desert Rose Swatches

  1. Chella Beauty Eyebrow Cream in Tantalizing Taupe – $26 (Buy Here)

Chella Beauty Eyebrow Cream in Tantalizing TaupeAdd some wow to your brows.  This innovative eyebrow cream effortlessly defines and shapes your eyebrows with its creamy consistency, and built in brush.  The velvet-like formula makes blending easy, then sets, giving you perfect brows that will last all day and night (exerpt).  I really like the innovative packaging, which makes it great for packing on the go.  The pomade is creamy and pigmented, but I was disappointed in the performance of the built-in brush.  The brush is just not stiff enough to define and carve out the brows, defeating the purpose of the unique packaging.Chella Beauty Eyebrow Cream in Tantalizing TaupeOverall Rating: I was rather disappointed by July’s Boxycharm so I’m giving it a rating of 6/10 stars.  July’s box had a combined value of $133.98, which is generous, but I was underwhelmed by this month’s product selection.  It probably didn’t help that it is following June’s box, which was amazing.  The only product that I’m pleased with this month is the Wander Beauty Mascara and Note Cosmetics Blusher.

Did you enjoy your Boxycharm?  Which products are you most excited to test out?

XO,

Mary Dee

I did a 3 month subscription (June – August) and I’ve been kinda disappointed! I do boxycharm reviews as well and like every month we’ve received an eyeshadow palette…and the one we got from July and this month I’m going to throw away 😬

Yesss, girl! I totally agree! I usually do the 12 month subscription for extra savings, but I’m considering not renewing at all since I’ve been on the fence with their selection. I will have one month that’s amazing, and then the next two months will be meh and I end up giving away most of the products in the boxes. So I totally know where you’re coming from 🙂

What are your thoughts? I would love to hear from you :)
