Play! by Sephora May 2017 Unboxing and First Impressions

Happy Monday, everyone!  Today, we are kickstarting the week with a review of my Sephora Play! sample box for May 2017.  Play! is Sephora’s subscription service that provides 5 beauty samples plus 1 fragrance sample for $10/month (plus local taxes).

May’s theme is The Rising Stars and the Play! Bag comes with 6 products in a cute, square envelope pouch.IMG_20170529_140029_739As usual, it includes an insert with product descriptions/ directions and a Play! Pass, redeemable in Sephora stores for 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any purchase.20170528_193143

  1. Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask – Deluxe Sample Sized (0.25 fl oz)

IMG_20170529_134747_152Non-irritating mask that works like a peel treatment to purify and revitalize skin with a proprietary blend of potent botanicals (insert).  I LOVE chemical exfoliating masks.  Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten around to testing this as my skin has been on the fritz from my bout with allergies 🙁 Once my skin calms down, I fully intend to try this out as it smells sooo good, like green tea.

  1. Trestique Highlight + Perfect Multipurpose Stick in Maldives Luminescent  – Deluxe Sample Sized

20170528_193834This silky smooth gel highlighter stick pairs a barely-there, lightweight texture with a luminous champagne pink shimmer (insert).  This highlighter formula is very creamy and blendable.  It looks rather intense in initial swatches, but once it’s been blended out, I quite enjoy the subtle glow it gives to the cheekbones and brow bone.IMG_20170603_140339_558

  1. Rahua Omega 9 Hair Mask – Deluxe Sized (22 ml)

20170528_193600Salon quality conditioning treatment made with omega-rich oil soaks into damaged or dull hair to add shine and vibrancy (insert).  I personally enjoyed the eucalyptus scent of this mask as it reminds me of a spa, but I didn’t see any huge differences in my hair after usage unfortunately.  I’ll finish the sample, but would not repurchase.

  1. Grande Lips Lip Plumper in Clear – Deluxe Sample Sized

IMG_20170529_141615_368Clear gloss uses a patented hyaluronic acid-infused formula to visibly plump lips while also softening over time (insert).  This lip plumper smells just like the Too Faced Lip Injections, so I was initially apprehensive to try it.  I am terrified of the Too Faced Lip Injections as I cannot stand the terrible sting ? I was pleased to find that this gloss did not sting or even tingle at all.  I did not see a huge difference in plumping action, but it did make my lips look smooth and hydrated overall.  I’m not sure about its claim to increase lip fullness over time, but I’ll continue using this as a gloss.

  1. Milk Makeup Blur Stick – Deluxe Sample Sized (0.1 oz)

IMG_20170529_140919_284Matte coverage blurring stick smooths and primes all skin tones for makeup by minimizing the appearance of pores and fine lines (insert).  I was so excited to finally try this Milk Makeup brand. This primer has a very unique powdery texture so it instantly blends into the skin.  It feels lightweight, fills in my pores, and evens my skin, making for a great base before foundation application.  I don’t feel it prolongs the longevity of my foundation, but it does make for a smooth, matte canvas.

  1. Clean Reserve Sel Santal Eau de Parfum – Sample Sized (0.05 fl oz)

IMG_20170529_141410_274Inspired by the vacations in the middle of South France, this scent blends notes of sun-warmed woods with salty ocean air and fresh, green fig leaves (insert).  This fragrance is a delightfully unique woodsy scent that borderlines being on the masculine side.  It is definitely strong, but smells clean and fresh.  This scent brings to my mind memories of sunset bonfires on the beach.  I dig it.

Overall Rating:  I was fairly satisfied with May’s Sephora Play! Bag so I award it a rating of 7/10 stars based on my first impressions.  My subscription originally came with a damaged Grande Lips Lip Plumper, but Sephora promptly sent me a replacement, so props to them for excellent customer service ? Additionally, I was pleased with the product selection ranging from skincare to makeup.  My favorite picks of the batch are the Trestique Highlighter Stick and Milk Makeup Blur Stick.

What are your thoughts on the Sephora Play! Bag?  Which products are you most excited to test out?
