Play! by Sephora April 2017 Unboxing and First Impressions

Happy Friday, everyone!  Congrats on making it to the weekend 🙂  Today, I will be sharing with you the contents of my Sephora Play! sample box for April 2017.  Play! is Sephora’s subscription service that provides 5 beauty samples plus 1 fragrance sample for $10/month (plus local taxes).

April’s theme is Step It Up! and the Play! Bag comes with 6 products in a white pouch with a princess design.IMG_20170420_011122_601As usual, it includes an insert with product descriptions/ directions and a Play! Pass, redeemable in Sephora stores for 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any purchase.20170416_112208

  1. Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream – Deluxe Sample Sized (0.25 fl oz)

20170416_113001Lightweight moisturizer with airy formula delivers a burst of hydration with three different types of hyaluronic acid (insert).  Those with oilier skin types can benefit from this moisturizer as it has a very watery texture and feels ultra lightweight.  Unfortunately, this does not provide enough hydration for my dry skin so I passed it on to the hubs.  I can’t confirm the 72 hours hydration claims either as I’m not sure how many people go 3 days without washing their face ^_^

  1. Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner  – Deluxe Sample Sized (0.01 oz)

20170416_112812Beloved by makeup professionals, this creamy, budge-proof eyeliner glides on easily and leaves intense, jet-black color (insert).  The product’s description pretty much sums up this eyeliner pencil.  The color is pitch black and the formula is very creamy, easily gliding onto the waterline.  It is longlasting, but not completely budgeproof on my bottom lashline, but I have yet to find any eyeliner that truly lasts all day on me.  Nevertheless, this is a great black, cream eyeliner.

  1. Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment – Deluxe Sized (0.25 fl oz)

20170416_112723Clinical strength exfoliator gently polishes skin with natural fruit enzymes to reveal a glowing complexion (insert).  After I have cleansed my face with my Clarisonic brush, I massaged this exfoliator in for about 30 minutes and left it on for another 2 minutes to work its magic.  This smells like cinnamon and has very fine microbeads.  After I have rinsed it off, my skin feels fresh, clean, and baby soft.  I’ll be incorporating this into my skincare routine once a week for deep exfoliation.  Good stuff!

  1. Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover – Deluxe Sized (0.84 fl oz)

20170416_112853A gentle, go-to waterproof makeup remover perfect for sensitive eyes and enriches with lash-strengthening vitamins and extracts (insert).  This reminds me a lot of the Lancome Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover in the sense that it requires shaking before use to mix the oils.  It doesn’t irritate my eyes and does a decent job of removing stubborn mascara and liquid liner.

  1. Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer – Deluxe Sample Sized (0.25 fl oz)

20170416_112937The iconic primer creates the perfect canvas for makeup application while leaving skin soft and silky-smooth (insert).  This silicone-based primer feels lightweight, fills in my pores, and evens my skin, making for a great base before foundation application.  This is one of my favorite foundation primers, but o my goodness, I have a surplus of these samples from all my subscription boxes.  Please, no more! 0:)

  1. Marc Jacobs Daisy de Parfum – Sample Sized (0.05 fl oz)

20170416_113051A playful, free-spirited, floral scent featuring a bouquet of wild strawberries, violet, and jasmine (insert).  I own this Daisy fragrance in the full size so you know I love this scent.  It is so light, fresh, and beautiful, perfectly appropriate for the workplace and daytime.

Overall Rating:  I was rather let down by April’s Sephora Play! Bag so I award it a rating of 6/10 stars based on my first impressions.  This would have to be one of weaker bags I’ve had in awhile.  There was more focus on skincare this month which unfortunately, did not wow me.  I think I just prefer getting makeup samples in these boxes 😉  Also, receiving yet another Smashbox Foundation Primer probably added to my disappointment.  The only product that really excited me in the batch is the Make Up For Ever Eyeliner.  I’m holding out that Sephora will come through next month with some bomb makeup items.

What are your thoughts on the Sephora Play! Bag?  Which products are you most excited to test out?

Mary Dee
