Matrix Total Results Brass Off Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Ever since I started lightening my naturally black/ brown hair, I’ve been battling brassy red tones on the daily.  I’ve tried a few purple shampoos in the past, and thought they worked fine, but after doing some research online, I was convinced I should be seeking out a blue shampoo instead.  Today, I’ll be sharing with you my review of the Matrix Total Results Brass Off Shampoo and Conditioner, with before and after photos!20200122_135434I’m no color theory expert or a hair colorist for that matter, but what I’ve gathered is that pigments on the opposite side of the color wheel will neutralize the unwanted tones in your hair.  Simply put, if you have blonde hair, you will want to use a purple shampoo to neutralize the yellow tones.  If you’re a brunette, like myself, you will want a blue based shampoo to neutralize the red and orange tones.

My search for a blue shampoo happened to coincide with the Ulta Beauty Jumbo Haircare Sale so I was able to score this Matrix Brass Off Shampoo and Condtioner for a total steal!

Total Results Brass Off is a professional salon clarifying shampoo that neutralizes brassy tones while refreshing your hair with cool tones. Best for brunettes who lighten their hair, this shampoo deposits balancing blue-violet pigments to reduce brassy tones (amazon.com). Matrix Brass Off Shampoo and Conditioner ReviewThe blue/ violet pigments in this shampoo is no joke, you have been forewarned.  I made the mistake of skipping gloves one time and it stained my hands and nail polish.  The directions recommend leaving the shampoo in your hair for 2-3 minutes.  However, for extra toning, I like applying a generous amount to damp hair, enough to saturate the entire head and leaving the product in for at least 30 minutes, before showering it off.  The shampoo rinses clean from my hair, so I did not feel as if I needed to follow up with a clarifying shampoo.  Admittedly, it does leave my hair on the drier side, which is where the conditioner comes in.

The conditioner has a very light lavender tint, so there is no staining, and I don’t believe it provides any additional toning.  However, the conditioner does a wonderful job of hydrating and detangling my hair, leaving it soft and manageable, with a lovely scent.  For that reason, I do recommend using both the shampoo and conditioner together for the best results.

I began to see the biggest changes after at least two shampoo sessions.  I can imagine that with repeated use, it will tone even more over time.

I’ve been using this duo for about 3 weeks, and I’ve been super happy with the results.  I’ve tried the Clairol Shimmer Lights and L’Oreal Ever Pure Shampoo/ Conditioner in the past, and this Matrix Brass Off Line has been my favorite so far.  I recommend waiting for another Ulta Beauty Jumbo Haircare Sale to get the best possible deal.  This huge bottle will last me quite some time and the value can’t be beat! Have you tried the Matrix Brass Off Haircare Line?  How did they work for you?
