Makeup Revolution Ultra Eye Contour Light and Shade Palette Review

Happy Friday, loves!  Congrats on making it to the weekend ? Today, I’m excited to be reviewing the Makeup Revolution Ultra Eye Contour Light & Shade Palette.  First off, let’s address the obvious.  This looks identical to the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette ?  I previously owned the cult favorite and while I enjoyed the formula, the majority of the shades were too neutral/ cool-toned for my personal tastes.  I ended up only using about three warm shades.  With the $48 price tag, I didn’t feel I was getting my money’s worth out of the palette.  So when I saw this affordable Makeup Revolution dupe, I was eager to put it to the test and see how the eyeshadows performed.Makeup Revolution Ultra Eye Contour Light and Shade Palette

What it is: Makeup Revolution’s Ultra Eye Contour Light & Shade Palette is everything you need for every day neutral looks. This highly pigmented palette includes 12 blendable, matte shades ranging from cool to warm tones – perfect to contour and define your eye shape  (ulta.com).

Price: $15, 0.49 oz (ulta.com)Makeup Revolution Ultra Eye Contour Light and Shade PalettePackaging: The plastic packaging is compact, sturdy, and travel friendly.  It comes with a foam applicator… which I don’t think anyone ever uses, but I appreciate the gesture 😉 It would have been nice to have a mirror, but I am willing to sacrifice that to easily see the colors through the clear plastic.

Formula: I was actually very impressed by the quality of these matte eye shadows!  As you can see from the swatches, these eye shadows are very pigmented.  They are definitely on the softer side, so there was quite a bit of kick up and fallout when dipping your brush into the shadows.  However, I don’t mind as I typically apply my eye shadow before my face makeup anyways.IMG_20170615_105849_097Color:  Like usual, I gravitated towards the warm shades in the far right quad.  That terracotta shade is my jam! ?  But I also love all the pale off-white shades for highlighting the browbone and the medium browns for deepening the crease.  The black is not as pitch black as Makeup Geek’s Corrupt, but it does the job of adding dept to the outer corners and for smoking out the lower lashline.

Swatches:  As these are all neutral tones and I’m pretty tanned at the moment, I don’t feel the swatches don’t do them justice.  They look much more pigmented and less patchy when applied on the eyes with makeup brushes.

Overall Rating:  I was very impressed with my Makeup Revolution Ultra Eye Contour Light and Shade Palette so I award it a rating of 9/10 stars!  $15 is a pretty good value for a gorgeous assortment of great quality matte eye shadows, considering you are getting 12 eyeshadows total.  On top of that, Ulta regularly has Buy One, Get One 50% Off sales on the brand so you can get it for even less 😉 I love how pigmented and blendable these are, making it super easy to put together quick day and nightime looks.  If you are looking for a more affordable dupe of the Kat Von D Palette or just a palette full of matte transition shades,  this would make an amazing addition to your collection.  I was very pleased with this palette and highly recommend! ?
